Throughout various historical civilizations and art movements, from Classical Greece and Rome to the Renaissance and the Bauhaus, the collaboration between art and architecture has been a significant societal expression. However, the 20th-century ideals of modernism and mass production resulted in the decline and near disappearance of art within buildings.

Situated in the town of Tiptur within the Tumkur district, this residence occupies a corner plot measuring 70’x40’ in a relatively new layout, devoid of immediate neighboring structures and architectural context/character. Addressing concerns related to privacy and security, the house incorporates a protective random rubble black granite stone wall that surrounds it, which is sourced from a nearby local granite quarry, resembling a fortification. Within this enclosure, the house block is positioned. A deliberate interplay of materials and spaces defines the area between the stone wall and the house.

Through “Re/Creation,” Lasvit —a leader in hand-made glassmaking— sets up a sanctuary for creative escapism amid the hustle and bustle of Milan’s Salone Week. In the serene embrace of Palazzo Isimbardi, “Re/Creation” offers a space where minds are free to wander, inspired by the fluid grace of molten glass. The title refers to the innovative technique of fused glass, where the essence of fused glass lies in letting go. Extremely hot melted glass is allowed to relax, spread and take shape of a form designed for the glass to lie on. Its own weight and gravity take care of the rest. Similarly, a creative mind is most prolific and innovative when relaxed, free of everyday pressures and demands. This is why, at the beautiful location of Palazzo Isimbardi, Lasvit creates a haven for creatives to escape, recharge and relax.

From April 25th to May 1st, 2024, in the Spanish city of Logroño, Concéntrico prepares for its 10th anniversary edition. Envisioned as a contemplation of changing urban environments and an opportunity to share insights about these processes, this year’s International Festival of Architecture and Design incorporates new formats to engage a wider audience and explore time as a catalyst for change in urban and social design. The Linden Centre Shaxi Community Campus is nestled in a new national park in Shilong village, along a trail from the historic town of Shaxi in Yunnan, southwest China. Henning Larsen has just won an international competition to design the New Arts Center in Bergen, Norway. Situated in western Norway, the Grieg Quarter aims to blend urbanity, culture, and natural beauty in Bergen. The winning entry proposes to expand the city’s creative and natural landscapes with the new performing arts and exhibition center.

The house, located in the corner of the residential complex, uses trees to maintain the privacy of its owner so that what is visible from the outside is only a fence and trees. On the other hand, from the inside, the outdoor view will immediately focus on the trees, not directly facing the street in the front.
