12.9-inch iPad Air won't have Mini LED display after all

25 April 2024 @ 1:49 am

Last week a report from a usually reliable source told us Apple was planning on using leftover Mini LED displays from its current-gen 12.9" iPad Pro for the upcoming 12.9" iPad Air. That would have been a very noticeable bump in display quality compared to the existing iPad Air model, but the excitement turns out to have been unwarranted. The very same Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants today shatters our dreams by saying the 12.9" iPad Air will not in fact use Mini LED panels, and instead will just have a plain old IPS LCD like the current iPad Air (pictured...

Qualcomm officially announces Snapdragon X Plus platform for laptops

24 April 2024 @ 11:33 pm

Following a couple of recent leaks, today Qualcomm has taken the wraps off the Snapdragon X Plus platform for laptops. This is a step down from the Snapdragon X Elite, featuring a 10-core Oryon CPU clocked at up to 3.4 GHz (vs. 12-core in the Elite) and up to 64GB of RAM with 135 GB/s bandwidth. The X Plus does however have a 45 TOPS NPU, which Qualcomm bills as the world's fastest NPU for laptops. The X Plus is expected to deliver "exceptional performance, long battery life, and industry-leading on-device AI capabilities". Speaking of which, Qualcomm demonstrated code generation in...

Exclusive: vivo X100s leaks ahead of May debut

24 April 2024 @ 9:33 pm

We have some exclusive photos of the upcoming vivo X100s. We previously heard that vivo is going with a new, flatter design and moving on from the curvy X100, and these photos confirm it. Our source also suggests a launch in May for the X100s, X100s Pro and X100s Ultra trio. The X100s has a flat frame with a textured finish and a lightly curved (2.5D) rear glass panel. The camera island has a knurled ring and four cameras. The camera system is seemingly unchanged from the X100 - which entails a 15-70mm setup with a 15mm ultrawide, a 70mm periscope, and a 50MP f/1.6 main camera. The...

WhatsApp developing in-app dialler to let you call people without saving their numbers

24 April 2024 @ 7:55 pm

Last year, we learned that WhatsApp was developing a feature that would let users message unsaved contacts. While that feature is yet to be rolled out to everyone, the platform has now started developing an in-app dialler that will allow its users to call people on WhatsApp without saving their numbers. This dialler was spotted on WhatsApp for Android's beta version 2.24.9.28. It would be as convenient as the ability to message someone on WhatsApp without having to save their number first since users wouldn't have to go through the hassle of temporarily adding the numbers to their address...

24 April 2024 @ 4:24 pm

It is equipped with a 6.67” 1080p+ AMOLED display and measures 162.9 x 75.6 x 8.1mm and weighs 191g. The Pro model is slimmer (7.5-7.9mm) and lighter (177g or 182g, depending on the colorway). iQOO Watch arrives with BlueOS, optional eSIM

24 April 2024 @ 2:36 pm

iQOO just unveiled its first smartwatch vivo iQOO Watch, but the company didn’t start from scratch – this looks very similar to the vivo Watch 3. It even runs the same BlueOS platform (rather than Google Wear OS). There is a version with eSIM, so this watch can operate independently from a smartphone, unlike most watches with a proprietary OS. And there is an app store, so you can add new functionality to the watch. The iQOO Watch measures 46.1mm across and is 11.3mm thick (not including the biometric sensor at the bottom). It weighs 36g without a strap. Speaking of, there are three...
