ICE cars are great and all but can they power a GP surgery for a day?

19 March 2026 @ 7:45 pm

ICE cars are great and all but can they power a GP surgery for a day? Planned power outage at my surgery today. My BYD Seal's V2L (vehicle to load) powered a giant vaccine fridge, 4 PCs and printers, 2 laptops, 8 PC screens, 20 VoIP phones and all the WiFi gubbins for 8hrs. Only used 8% of the battery capacity. Nifty bit of kit. submitted by /u/Dr-Gank to r/CarTalkUK [l

Accidentally forgot to pay what to do?

19 March 2026 @ 6:42 pm

My local coop on a uni road I did self checkout and I was just zoned out the person next to me scanned their membership card and their items at the same time as me and I was just thinking about that for some reason. Then I put the things in my bag and left put the basket back and no one stopped me but there’s no security there. Then went across the road to other shop and bought something and realised I never took out my card in the last shop. Do I go back? Seems silly I only bought less than £10 of stuff but it’s my local and I scanned my membership card. I also don’t want to be stopped next time I’m in there bc people I know will be there. Not sure what to do submitted by /u/AntLost9672 to r/AskUK

Why are so many big British companies foreign owned?

19 March 2026 @ 5:31 pm

Surely this isn’t good the uk has basically sold all their valuable brands. JLR Indian owned, Mini and Rolls Royce owned by BMW, Bentley owned by VW, even a mass market car manufacturer like Vauxhall is foreign owned (stallantis). Premier league football teams are now majority owned by Americans. Even crucial infrastructure Heathrow airport is foreign owned. How has this been allowed to happen? No wonder the country is struggling foreign ownership has basically siphoned off the wealth. submitted by /u/kaydnh to r/AskUK [link] [comments]

Feeling ripped off by Sheffield Hallam

19 March 2026 @ 5:22 pm

Feeling ripped off by Sheffield Hallam Me and my friends are first year Sociology students at Sheffield Hallam University. Today is the first day we've all had off together so we decided to go and see what was on at the Students Union. We've found the location on a map outside the University entrance, only to find an empty, closed building and an empty room at the supposed replacement site. This place is literally charging us over £9,000 a year and providing nothing. How can we complain? submitted by /u/SHUStu

Donald Trump just made a Pearl Harbour joke in front of the Japanese PM and it has to be seen to be believed

19 March 2026 @ 5:14 pm

To the White House where Donald Trump was entertaining the Japanese prime minister, Sanae Takaichi. Ahead of their meeting Takaichi said she expected it would be a ‘very difficult’ conversation except it turns out she had no idea just how difficult, after a Japanese reporter asked Trump why he hadn’t informed his allies before he […] The post Donald Trump just made a Pearl Harbour joke in front of the Japanese PM and it has to be seen to be believed appeared first on The Poke.

An American asked Brits for advice before eating his first ever tin of baked beans and these 17 homegrown replies will make you proud to be British

19 March 2026 @ 4:09 pm

It’s a delight to see that Twitter can still be a nice, genuinely helpful and collaborative platform. With Musk’s algorithms openly promoting division and hatred, it’s such a refreshing change to come across the following conversation about, of all things, baked beans. Here’s American user Greg Baldwin, asking his British followers for advice on how […] The post An American asked Brits for advice before eating his first ever tin of baked beans and these 17 homegrown replies will make you proud to be British appeared first on The Poke.

Pete Hegseth said Europe should ‘say thank you’ to Donald Trump for going to war with Iran and the entirety of Europe replied as one

19 March 2026 @ 3:12 pm

Donald Trump’s ability to pack his cabinet with the least likeable people in America knows no bounds. And surely none of them are less likeable than Pete Hegseth. As if to reinforce that point, the secretary of defence, sorry, war has been doing his bit for the White House PR machine by suggesting that European […] The post Pete Hegseth said Europe should ‘say thank you’ to Donald Trump for going to war with Iran and the entirety of Europe replied as one appeared first on The Poke.

Whoever did the new Trump cover of the Economist, give them the rest of the week off

19 March 2026 @ 2:53 pm

Not the first newspaper or magazine front page we’ve featured among these posts, but this has got to be up there with the best. It’s the new edition of the Economist which, as you might expect, is preoccupied like everyone else with Donald Trump and his war on Iran. And they don’t say it much […] The post Whoever did the new Trump cover of the Economist, give them the rest of the week off appeared first on The Poke.

America’s media regulator just said Donald Trump is ‘the alpha in every single place all across the world’ in case you’re wondering how freedom of the press is going

19 March 2026 @ 2:42 pm

The guy in charge of keeping the United States media fair and balanced might also be the President’s publicist. The Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, Brendan Carr, is an occasional podcast guest. And like most podcast guests, as soon as the mics were turned on, he said something stupid. When asked about Donald Trump, […] The post America’s media regulator just said Donald Trump is ‘the alpha in every single place all across the world’ in case you’re wondering how freedom of the press is going appeared first on The Poke.

If Donald Trump’s latest social media rant was meant to reassure people it had entirely the opposite effect, the surest sign yet he has no control over the US war with Iran

19 March 2026 @ 2:04 pm

Donald Trump claimed he “won” the war with Iran two weeks ago. That report apparently didn’t make it to Israel. In the type of late night, unhinged rant we’ve unfortunately grown accustomed to, the US President took to his pet social media platform to issue a statement about the state of affairs in the Middle […] The post If Donald Trump’s latest social media rant was meant to reassure people it had entirely the opposite effect, the surest sign yet he has no control over the US war with Iran appeared first on The Poke.

What’s something people only romanticise because they’ve never actually done it? – 17 things that aren’t as amazing as people expect

19 March 2026 @ 1:19 pm

Some things in life are better than you’d ever expect, like a bed with fresh sheets or the sound of rain on a tent canopy. Other things, however, fall drastically short of the hype. Nonotje12 wanted to hear about these unexpected disappointments, so they posed the following question to users over at r/AskReddit: ‘What’s something […] The post What’s something people only romanticise because they’ve never actually done it? – 17 things that aren’t as amazing as people expect appeared first on The Poke.

James Cleverly tried to introduce Kemi Badenoch’s ‘best bits’ and the fail that followed was magnificently on-point

19 March 2026 @ 12:30 pm

Spare a thought – only kidding – for James Cleverly, the one-time Tory party leadership wannabe who was given the job of introducing Kemi Badenoch at the Convservatives’ local election launch. The warm-up man’s build-up included a video of Badenoch’s ‘best bits’ but it’s fair to say it didn’t go entirely to plan. And it […] The post James Cleverly tried to introduce Kemi Badenoch’s ‘best bits’ and the fail that followed was magnificently on-point appeared first on The Poke.
