23 April 2024 @ 5:29 am

Meta has announced that it's opening up the Horizon OS powering its Oculus headsets to third parties. The first companies to use Horizon OS in new headsets will be Asus and Lenovo. The Asus headset will be ROG branded and will be aimed at gamers, while Lenovo will "develop mixed reality devices for productivity, learning, and entertainment", according to the official press release on the matter. Meta strongly hints at the fact that these devices will be using Qualcomm chipsets just like it did for the Quest 3, while not directly saying it. There will also be a limited-edition "Meta Quest,...

Tecno Camon 30 Premier battery life test results are ready

23 April 2024 @ 4:15 am

While we are preparing the full Tecno Camon 30 Premier review, we decided to share the results from our battery test. The handset earned a respectable 13:29h Active Use Score, which is more than what you could expect from most devices in the same price range. The Camon 30 Premier uses a 5,000 mAh battery, which is tasked to power a large 6.77-inch OLED display and a Dimensity 8200 SoC. Interestingly, the OLED is of the LTPO kind, which probably saves some power, and as evidenced by the tests, the Dimensity 8200 takes it easy on the battery as well. const BATTERY_TEST_PHONE_V2 =...

HMD Pulse might be launching this week

23 April 2024 @ 12:41 am

HMD Global recently announced that it would start making smartphones under its own brand following many years of releases under the Nokia brand. One of, if not the first HMD-branded smartphones, will be the Pulse, which was extensively leaked earlier this month. Back then we thought it would land in July, but it turns out it could arrive way sooner than that - this week, in fact. That is according to a now taken down listing by Finnish retailer Gigantti, which had the phone up with specs and pricing too - €179. Not just that, but the listing also had a release date: April 24. That's this...

10-core Snapdragon X Plus surfaces, will ship on the Surface Pro 10 OLED

22 April 2024 @ 11:11 pm

While Microsoft is gearing up for its Windows on ARM event on May 20, Qualcomm is preparing the processors that will power that revolution. The flagship in that new line of silicon is the Snapdragon X Elite but it has a sidekick - the Snapdragon X Plus. Today, we have our first solid information about the latter chip. The Snapdragon X Plus surfaced in a Geekbench DirectML benchmark on a device codenamed OEMMN. There's no room for interpretation on the chip's part - it's plainly named - the Snapdragon X Plus or X1P64100. The Qualcomm Oryon CPU is a 10-core unit with a max clock speed...

22 April 2024 @ 9:45 pm

Apple gave up on offering leather accessories for its mobile devices in September of last year, replacing them with a "FineWoven" material that is made from 68% post-consumer recycled polyester. It's been selling $59 FineWoven iPhone cases and MagSafe Wallets, $35 FineWoven AirTag holders, and $99 FineWoven Apple Watch bands ever since. According to a new report from the same leakster who initially told us about these FineWoven accessories last year, Apple has now terminated production for all of them. Thus, if this is true (and that's a big if even with a reliable source like this), and...

Samsung Galaxy Ring model numbers leak pointing to eight different sizes

22 April 2024 @ 5:14 pm

Samsung's Galaxy Ring was initially teased in January, then showcased in February at MWC, and is expected to be fully announced this July at the company's next Unpacked unveiling event, which is also where the next Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold will see the light of day. So far we've been operating under the assumption that there will be nine Galaxy Ring sizes in total, but a new leak kind of implies Samsung may have cut one of those, and settled on eight in the end. This leak gives us the model numbers for the rings, and there are just eight of them: SM-Q500, SM-Q501, SM-Q502, SM-Q505,...
