This proposed design of Ryzen 5800GX combines Zen3 chiplet with Navi24 GPU

20 January 2022 @ 9:28 am

AMD Ryzen 5800GX is a suggested design to put Navi 24 GPU and Zen3 chiplet on a single package Twitter user Olrak (@Olrak29_) better known for his diagrams of the upcoming Navi 3X GPUs proposes a design of AMD Ryzen 5800GX processor.  This design of the 5800GX processor, of course, is by no means based on a leak. Olrak came up with the idea of putting a just-released Navi 24 GPU alongside Zen3 chiplet. In other words, this design would replace one of the Ryzen 5000 CCD (Core Complex Die) with Navi 24 GPU. The math here checks out because...Keep on reading: This proposed design of Ryzen 5800GX combines Zen3 chiplet with Navi24 GPU

AMD employee confirms Navi 24’s primary use is in laptops with Rembrandt APUs

20 January 2022 @ 8:35 am

AMD Radeon RX 6500XT gets negative reviews AMD's latest low-end GPU launch has been painted by limited performance, lack of encoding capabilities, and issues with limited PCIe lanes.  The GPU maker's decision to launch a low-end mobile GPU as the desktop had a disastrous effect. Reviewers have commonly expressed their negative conclusions on AMD's 199 USD desktop card. Not only was the card hardly available at MSRP outside of the US, but it also somehow went out of stock. By far the most commented issues with RX 6500XT were non-existent ray tracing performance or subpar performance on the PCIe Gen3...Keep on reading: AMD employee confirms Navi 24’s primary use is in laptops with Rembrandt APUs

AMD removes its blog post claiming ‘4GB VRAM is not enough for games’, right before introducing RX6500XT graphics

19 January 2022 @ 12:12 pm

AMD quietly hides its "4GB is not enough for today's games" blog post KitGuru noticed that AMD is suddenly not considering 4GB as a problem for games. As the company surprisingly removed its 2020 blog entry covering this problem. Next-gen games will require more VRAM for textures, especially when running in high-quality settings. In 2020 AMD claimed that insufficient graphics memory can lead to error messages, lower framerate, and game stutter. This is seemingly no longer a problem in 2022, as AMD removed its blog entry claiming just that. This happens right before introducing 4GB Radeon RX 6500XT with 4GB...Keep on reading: AMD removes its blog post claiming ‘4GB VRAM is not enough for games’, right before introducing RX6500XT graphics

Intel Media Driver 22 released with Alchemist/ATS-M (Arctic Sound Maintream) support

19 January 2022 @ 10:37 am

Arctic Sound resurfaces as Alchemist... ARC PRO series? An interesting update arrived at Intel's open-source GPU driver called "Media Driver 2021Q4". Patch notes reveal that the driver now supports Intel Alchemist/ATS-M. According to Phoronix means Arctic Sound Mainstream. We are not familiar with this codename and 'the original' Arctic Sound has disappeared from the news headlines after Intel seemingly abandoned its plans for Xe-HP architecture. For many months the company has been teasing three of its Xe-HP products, only to scrap the plans to commercialize them in the end. Later on, we learned that Intel will be releasing Xe-HPG based...Keep on reading: Intel Media Driver 22 released with Alchemist/ATS-M (Arctic Sound Maintream) support

The last thing we need in 2022 are GPU lootboxes, yet here they are

19 January 2022 @ 8:27 am

A chance to win GeForce GT 1030 at MSRP, or RTX 30/RX6000 at fraction of the cost? Japanese Amazon seller is doing something truly crazy, offering 'mystery boxes' packed with new and used graphics cards. As the name suggests buyers of the 'surprise blind box' will not know what they are buying for 100 USD (the offer is currently out of stock so we are unsure about the pricing). This is either a great idea for the current times or quite the opposite, a method of extorting money from people who still have hope to buy high-end GPUs at MSRP....Keep on reading: The last thing we need in 2022 are GPU lootboxes, yet here they are
