Against the Storm - Nightwatchers DLC – Yay or Nay (PC)

1 August 2025 @ 11:20 am

I should have exiled more foxes. Or maybe I should have re-rolled cornerstones until I got the ones that deliver tools or meat for villagers who leave. Giving the Bats more of their favorite food could have been a winning move. I made hundreds of small decisions while developing this settlement, and it’s impossible to re-evaluate them all. I was one completed Forbidden Glade event away from dealing with the Gold Seal, but the Queen became impatient, and I lost. Now it’s time to open up the final few upgrades and start a new cycle. I’ll work with the Bats as much as possible, extracting coal, copper, and salt, and hope that I’ll be in a better position before launching my next attempt to get the Gold. Against the Storm - Nightwatchers is developed by Eremite Games and published by Hooded Horse, the same as the core game. This is the second downloadable content pack for the city-building title, adding another race to work with and other enhancements. The Bats are no...

Gex Trilogy Review (PS5)

1 August 2025 @ 11:07 am

We live in an intriguing moment in entertainment history. On the one hand, the industry has slowed down when it comes to launching new intellectual properties, and more often than not with uneven results. On the other hand, nostalgia continues to be a lucrative strategy, with publishers reviving classics from the past to cater to both longtime fans and curious newcomers. It’s within this duality that Gex Trilogy makes its return — a collection that aims to revive a lesser-remembered mascot of the late '90s platforming boom. Released by Limited Run Games through their proprietary Carbon Engine, Gex Trilogy brings back the three mainline titles featuring the wisecracking gecko created by Crystal Dynamics. Rather than remakes or full remasters, these are straight ports enhanced by modern conveniences such as save states, rewind functions, and visual filters. While the core games remain unchanged, these added features help somewhat in bridging the gap between classic ...

Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition Review (PC)

31 July 2025 @ 5:21 pm

When Beamdog released the Enhanced Edition of the original Neverwinter Nights back in 2018, it was only a matter of time before its critically acclaimed sequel received the same treatment. Now, seven years later, Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition has arrived, offering players both old and new a chance to return to the Forgotten Realms—this time with smoother controls, console compatibility, and all the content ever created for the game bundled together. But make no mistake: while this re-release is a testament to the enduring legacy of classic Dungeons & Dragons RPGs, it also brings with it a fair share of technical hiccups, outdated systems, and the kind of complexity that can overwhelm unprepared players. For those willing to embrace its depth, however, Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition remains an epic, unforgettable journey that still stands tall among the genre's titans. The Enhanced Edition includes the original base game along with all three major e...

Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition Review (PC)

30 July 2025 @ 6:37 am

I should have more ballistae up on towers, raining bolts on the incoming Saracens. That didn’t happen much during the actual Crusades, but it makes sense in a strategy video game that’s focused on building impregnable fortresses and then finding ways to burn them down. But I still want to repel the siege using mostly archers because it fits with my vision of history and creates a decent gameplay challenge. Maybe I need a few knights, although they are expensive to create, to simply target siege engines, even if it's mostly a suicide mission. Or maybe I should make my economy a little more efficient and use the extra resources to simply make sure I have more units and even more walls. Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition is developed and published by FireFly Studios. I played using Steam on the PC, this being the only platform on which the title is available. The video game is one of the classics of the real-time strategy genre, with a focus on building extensive...

Let Them Trade Review (PC)

29 July 2025 @ 11:46 am

City builders are always a lot of fun because you get to have a tranquil environment where you create the city of your dreams. In Let Them Trade, you get to have your own castle, build a network of cities around it and start trading. The game’s primary focus is to help you build the best economy, while ensuring that your kingdom is thriving. But as always, things might not work exactly the way you want, and you will find all kinds of obstacles along the way. At its core, the main idea behind Let Them Trade is rather simple, you start creating cities and slowly expand them. I found that creating multiple cities at once is a great idea, yet at the same time, it also comes with challenges. One of them is that you need lots of resources for the growing population, and that certainly becomes a chore. Not only that, but you need to have buildings that generate those resources, upgrade them, and then you expand. If you ever played any trading or city building game, Let Th...

Hotel Galactic Preview (PC)

28 July 2025 @ 3:47 pm

What would you do if you had the opportunity to take over an intergalactic hotel that was run down and abandoned? Would you take on the challenge? That’s exactly what Hotel Galactic tries to do, it puts us right in the middle of an inspiring and fun, cozy management experience with clever and rather cute characters. One of the things that strike you right from the start is the beautiful landscape and interesting characters. All of them have their own personality, and you can interact with them as you explore through the story. Of course, you can just ditch the story and enter the sandbox mode, if you so desire. Every move you make as you restore your hotel is watched over by the Galactic Peace Corps. They are trying to respond to every action you take and sometimes, they can be harsh. That’s why you need to clean up, repair and upgrade the hotel as you see fit. It’s not going to be an easy task, however. Yet the interesting thing is that you can add a lot of new r...

RoboCop: Rogue City – Unfinished Business Review (PC)

28 July 2025 @ 3:31 pm

It wouldn’t be inaccurate to say that Polish developer Teyon flew under the radar for most of its existence. Despite having a long list of releases since its founding in 2006, few gamers could name one—until RoboCop: Rogue City burst onto the scene. To the shock of many, Teyon didn’t just deliver a competent shooter—it produced a gritty, retro-inspired FPS that captured the spirit of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 cult classic with uncanny precision. Brutal, nostalgic, and laced with satire, Rogue City hit a sweet spot that resonated with both long-time fans and newcomers alike. The game’s unexpected success earned Teyon newfound respect and visibility. Now, riding that momentum, the studio returns with Unfinished Business—a standalone expansion that trims the fat and sharpens its focus. Rather than upending the formula, this follow-up opts for refinement. It leans hard into what worked before, offering a tighter, more action-centric experience that feels like a condensed s...

ICBM: Escalation - Endless October – Yay or Nay (PC)

25 July 2025 @ 4:40 pm

Winning in Korea is hard. A constant stream of allied tank divisions is streaming down the peninsula, engaging the forces of the United States and its allies. They have air superiority and rely heavily on aircraft carriers and destroyers to strike both on land and sea. Getting into the South requires good unit production choices that can deal with their strengths. I’ve learned the hard way that the initial fleet needs to be conservative in its approach. I’ve deployed quite a few AA units, although I need to be better at keeping them out of harm’s way. Ballistic missiles are raining down on entrenched positions, while a FOB is helping our divisions stay in the fight. I’m tempted to push now, but I know that it’s better to make sure the skies are clear first while pounding their positions. ICBM: Escalation - Endless October is developed by SoftWarWare and published by Slitherine Ltd. This is the first downloadable content pack for the strategy game. It gives players ...

Crown Gambit Review (PC)

25 July 2025 @ 4:29 pm

This artifact fight was pretty easy. A crackly spirit emerged from the gauntlet we retrieved from a powerful Paladin, heavily armored and able to deliver area-of-effect attacks. It took four rounds to destroy it, using just one upgraded card power, mainly because Aliza is very good at ignoring enemy armor. As my trio of heroes pushes through the city, more and more people are ready to fight them. When the commoners engage, either driven by despair or by rumors, we avoid or run, if possible, because it doesn’t make sense to kill them. When the noble houses or other Paladins throw down the gauntlet, we’re more than ready to prove our combat capabilities. Aliza, armed with her fine blade, goes straight for the fleshy bits and relies on bleed to disable enemies. Rollo, who got the most health and armor upgrades, gets right into the fray, often striking multiple foes at once. Hael is an excellent support and has one card that, when boosted, can give a lot of armor to th...

Xenopurge Preview (PC)

24 July 2025 @ 7:19 pm

Jennings is in trouble, caught far from the three other soldiers in his squad and pursued by two aliens. I’ve already used one health stim to make sure Morse is in top form, and I’d rather keep one in reserve for as long as possible. So, I give Jennings a shot to boost speed and tell him to get to one of his mates as quickly as possible. I still have an alien hive to find and destroy, and, unfortunately, only a few seconds until the next xeno wave materializes. It’s tempting to run and gun, but it’s a better idea to wait, take out the charging aliens, and then move back to recon to find their lair. The team deals with the assault relatively quickly, I decide to extract Jennings, and I hope that my three-man squad can quickly finish this mission. Xenopurge is developed by Traptics and published by Firesquid. The title is now in Early Access on Steam. The video game combines squad management and auto-battling with a run-based structure. The narrative setup is simple ...
