by ToBakai So, can one say that there's still a chance to get the expansions I'm missing from this website? I'd read everywhere that Petersen Games is bankrupt and that there's no longer any chance of getting most of their games.

Reply: General Gaming:: Re: Is your interest in board games continuous or does it come in waves?

23 April 2026 @ 8:59 am

by davidov92 I won't say it comes in waves, but that it's seasonal.Having other hobbies that are best practiced in the warmer months, I'd rather go outside when the weather starts warming up. So while I won't say no to the occassional game night during the spring and summer, I'm more likely to spend my weekends doing other things. In my opinion and experience boardgaming is best enjoyed in a warm house in the long, dark, cold nights of winter. Does this count as coming in waves?

by Rhalius Thanks for the suggestions so far. Blood Rage does look interesting, but I am not sure it really is with armies, more with like warriors. It certainly looks great though. And I am looking for something that looks good. Miniatures aren't a requirement, but it would need some nice artwork on the components if there aren't any. I've come across Rune Wars too, which does look pretty nice and has fewer units to recruit, but that's not available for sale and there's still some doubts I have about it. Miniatures look a bit odd too. But the game being available for sale is certainly a must. Might be a while before I'd get it though since I am running out of board game space, but I like being aware of what's out there, give it plenty of thought first, watch reviews, maybe a playthrough, see what I'd like best. Hoping to have more room for games next year or earlier, when finding a new hom

Reply: Piquet:: Variants:: Re: [2026 solomode] Pocket Piquet

23 April 2026 @ 8:58 am

by kukn Hi Karen, thanks for this solo mode - finally something I can actually test, as playing cards are easy to come by 🙂 As a note, the 32-card deck is very common in Central Europe, with a number of classic games using it. In the Czech Republic, it is Prší (something like Uno or Crazy Eights). Your rules are easy to understand, even though I've never played Piquet before, gj! The gameplay is smooth, everything works.I would say there is limited use to the solo mode as a standalone game as I felt it was not very challenging - the ability to swap out cards allows you to score pretty high, beyond that it is pretty straightforward. The scoring would be a bit odd on its own, with the single points + big increments for different milestones, but I understand you keep to the traditional Piquet scoring, so there's not much you can do with that unless you break with the original game completely
