Honor adds Virtual Permissions feature to MagicOS that protects your private data

10 June 2026 @ 4:16 am

Ever had to grant permissions you don't really want to give a certain app to use it? For instance, when you are asked to give access to your call history or messages just to be able to use a fitness app. Well, Honor has a solution for that and calls it Virtual Permissions. Virtual Permissions is a feature coming to MagicOS devices this month that allows you to grant blank permissions to apps you don't trust. When enabled for select apps in the settings menu, the system will give empty data - blank call logs, messages, false camera access, etc. Since Honor is doing this on a...

Samsung is already working on Galaxy A18 firmware builds

10 June 2026 @ 3:01 am

Samsung is currently working on the Galaxy A18 4G, in fact the company is already developing test firmware for the device as you can see in the screenshot below which originates on Samsung's test server for Europe. The phone will have the model number SM-A185F. Interestingly, because Samsung is using the SHA256 hash for these builds instead of the older MD5 format, the Galaxy A18 4G may launch with One UI 9 on board from day one. If that's the case, then it will only get official in late summer or in the fall, since One UI 9 is expected to make its debut next month on the company's...

Samsung Galaxy S27 surfaces for the first time

10 June 2026 @ 12:02 am

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S27 has now been spotted in the GSM Association's IMEI database. This confirms its name and its model number, that is SM-S952 with a letter affixed to that, which signifies which market(s) it's intended for. The specific model in the IMEI database is the SM-S952U, as you can see in the screenshot below. This one is going to US carriers. Of course, having this confirmation that the Galaxy S27 is actually in development, and will be sold in the US through the big three carriers, is anything but surprising. And yet, it's nice to have, as the IMEI database...

Google makes its AI Plus plan cheaper, doubles the cloud storage that comes with it

9 June 2026 @ 9:12 pm

Google scored a big victory yesterday as its Gemini model became the foundation of Apple’s new Siri. But the tech giant is pushing even harder to grab as much market share during the AI boom as possible – it just made its base AI plan cheaper. Google AI Plus used to be $8 a month and came with 200GB of storage. The monthly price has been reduced to $5 or the local equivalent, wrote Vikas Kansal on his X account (Kansal is the Product lead for Google AI subscriptions). We clicked around the various local sites and here are some of the prices in local currencies: USD 5 / CAD 7 / GBP...

TrendForce: global smartphone market declined 1.7% in Q1, things will get worse later this year

9 June 2026 @ 6:23 pm

284 million smartphones were produced globally in the first three months of 2026, a decline of 1.7% compared to the same period last year, reports TrendForce. The impact of increasing memory prices was minimal, but only because manufacturers had stockpiles of cheap memory available – those are gradually being exhausted. For the full year 2026, the analysts’ prediction is dire – 1.051 billion units produced or 16.2% less than last year. And this is the good option as TrendForce notes: “the annual decline could become even more pronounced if memory price increases remain elevated and brands...

New images of Apple iPhone Ultra's dummy unit give us our best look at it yet

9 June 2026 @ 5:04 pm

We have a fair idea of what Apple's first folding iPhone - rumored to be called iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra - will look like, courtesy of previously leaked CAD schematics, case renders, and images of dummy units. But new pictures of the iPhone Ultra's dummy unit, which have surfaced online, give us our best look yet at the first folding iPhone. These images - shared by Sonny Dickson - show the iPhone Ultra's dummy unit in folded and unfolded states, from the front and rear, in white. Dickson says it could be the only color option Apple will offer, which we have heard before. And if Apple...

Samsung Galaxy A27 pricing leaks and it's not pretty

9 June 2026 @ 3:57 pm

Samsung's Galaxy A27 has been leaking a lot lately, with renders followed by even more renders, as well as its full specs being outed. There was however a missing piece of the pie: the price. That's now been revealed too. The Galaxy A27 will allegedly go for €349 in the Eurozone with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and €439 with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. For reference, note that its predecessor, the Galaxy A26, launched at €299 and €369, respectively, so we're looking at a €50 price hike for the base model and a €70 hike for the top of the line offering. That's quite a...
