Top Five Thursday - Best socking silly games

16 April 2026 @ 6:00 am

by Christian Nonnenbroich Aaaaaaaaaaand we're back. And what is that title supposed to mean? Well... it's a bit of self-censorship, because I didn't want to put f-bombs on the starting page of BGG (and also maybe wanted to reinforce the new theme of this blog). I know, we're all adults here, and this shouldn't bother anybody in this day and age, but... I know there's a sizable audience her who for some reason IS bothered by me calling this what it really is, namely the...Top Five Thursday: Best fucking stupid gamesOh, yeah, right, that's what I usually call these. In a surprisingly affectionate way, because yeah, that's usually a mark of quality to me. What do I mean by it, though? It's... a bit hard to explain, and I still don't know if I have an airtight definition for that, but... maybe we can find out together. So here's how I define what I personally call a "fucking stupid game" on thi

16 April 2026 @ 5:58 am

by shalimgar Yes, there are 3-4 cards that let you get shells. They usually involve discarding a certain nr of cards. For example, there is one that allows you to draft a new card and take a shell each time you play a card and decide to to give another card to another player (blue card). There's also a card (green one), which only activates when played and on 2-3 other occasions, allowing you to discard 3 cards and take 3 new ones + 1 shell for each card you discarded. These cards are most useful if combined with other cards that frequently let you draft more cards. Base everdell has similar cards which let you get coins (mostly by paying resources). But I think Farshore has more of those card drafting opportunities than basegame everdell, which allows you to go through the deck a bit more easily. Some players found that basegame everdell was a bit more difficult in the sense that the cards they wanted never show

I wish they had kept expanding on 1st edition with more monsters and ideas. Instead, we get a rules tweak with worse art 2nd edition. And now another start from the beginning 3rd edition. This could have been a while universe rather than a collection of base games.

This turn of events marks the first quarter of negative growth since 2023, largely driven by “acute memory supply constraints” affecting both shipments and demand.
