Reply: General Gaming:: Re: Heated confrontation on board game etiquette led to player quitting: Who was right?

24 May 2026 @ 9:11 am

by Yenreb For scenario B, here's how I would have fixed it: Point out that it should have 6. Observe that a player did indeed take spice this round and it should have had 5 at the time, and cost less water, so rollback to allow them to take that space instead. Check if anyone else's actions would change as a result (e.g. they wanted the spice on the space that is now available). It's true that the spice that should have accumulated there earlier in the game might have affected players' decisions in prior rounds, but that's too far to rollback.

by iiiDaNiii Hey Karaan, thanks for having another go at the game! I appreciate the additional feedback.I expect there's going to be some level of overwhelming baked in for this sort of game. I want the depth and replayability that comes from having a lot of different symbols, but I agree that can create a lot of mental strain in the early games. I'm not totally sure I have a solution for this, but yes, hopefully the 'flow' state gets rolling before too many plays!I suppose players could park on each of the early missions for more than one play to get more familiar. Thanks again for playing!

Thread: The Epic Battle of Alesia:: General:: First play and question shock combat chart

24 May 2026 @ 9:10 am

by rockerviking After a visit at Alesia 2 years ago I was excited that this game was coming. Yesterday was our first set-up and play. I think its a great looking game and overwhelming to set-up and what strategy is the best to play! So that is the great part of the game so far. As we played on we came to the conclusion that strategic moving is a key part and that shock combat is hard to win!!! Getting 3-1 or more odds for the Gallic is hard to get and is there a positive outcome if you get a Battle rages outcome? Also Roman attacks has to be with good odds otherwise a retreat result is most likely and that will cause some serious defensive problems. The game MUST and will be back on the table but some can give me some thoughts about there gameplay and the shock combat table…

So yesterday he brought over Warriors of God: The Wars of England & France, 1135-1453 and we got two games done : in the first, he thrashed my French mercilessly and won in six turns ; in the second, he overturned a 25-point deficit to narrowly lose to my English on the last turn. Weekly poll results: Sony Xperia 1 VIII might be a hit, despite its high price

24 May 2026 @ 1:03 am

The results from last week’s poll have us wondering – do people really love the Sony Xperia 1 VIII so much or do they love phones with 3.5mm headphone jacks and microSD slots and the Xperia happens to be the only flagship to have those features? Because the results are quite positive – nearly a quarter of voters are willing to spend €1,500/£1,400 to get the Mark 8 and that is if they pick up the base 12/256GB unit. The 512GB and 1TB models cost more (€2,000/£1,850 in the case of the 1TB version). Interestingly, the positive vote could have gone higher, but Sony didn’t even launch the...

Samsung Galaxy A57 vs. Galaxy A56

23 May 2026 @ 7:42 pm

If you are in the market for a mid-range smartphone, it's almost impossible not to stumble upon Samsung's Galaxy A lineup. But with the recent Samsung Galaxy A57 release, one would wonder whether the Samsung Galaxy A56 isn't actually a more sensible solution, seeing the somewhat modest hardware upgrade. After all, last year's Galaxy A56 is still relevant and sells at a lower price. Since the more recent Galaxy offers only minor design changes and a newer chipset, it's probably safe to assume that the Galaxy A56 will get you a lot of the way while saving you a few bucks. But even trivial...
