Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro review
18 May 2026 @ 12:02 am
Introduction, unboxing
Huawei's Watch Fit series is very popular because it combines a small form factor with a useful rectangular display, colorful bands, a strong suite of health and fitness tracking, and superb battery life for not a lot of money. Many people gravitate towards the series (and others like it) because they cover the majority of functionality of an Apple Watch or a Wear OS watch, but with far superior battery life.
And as the series has evolved, it's gotten nicer and more premium, think less fitness band and more premium smartwatch. This move into premium happened last...WhatsApp is now testing the View-Once disappearing messages feature on iOS
17 May 2026 @ 9:03 pm
WhatsApp has been testing the View-Once disappearing messages feature on its Android app since last month, and we now hear it is being tested on iOS as well.
This revelation comes from the folks at WABetaInfo, who spotted this View-Once disappearing messages feature on beta version 26.19.10.72 of WhatsApp for iOS.
This feature can be enabled via the "After reading" option in the Default message timer > Message timer menu. On iOS, it allows the sender to set a countdown timer for 5 minutes, 1 hour, or 2 hours, after which the message(s) they sent will disappear automatically if read by...Sony Xperia 1 VIII is official, Xiaomi 17 Max is coming - week 20 in review
17 May 2026 @ 6:31 pm
Sony unveiled its Xperia 1 VIII flagship with a new design, but the old core specs and idea. There's a new 1/1.56-inch telephoto camera - a four times larger sensor with four times the resolution compared to what's in the Mark VII.
The new 48MP tele is locked at 2.9x (70mm). The other two cameras are the same - 24mm f/1.9 and 16mm f/2.0. Add a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, just 12GB of RAM, and a 5,000mAh battery.
The Xperia 1 VIII is on sale from €1,500/£1,400 for the base 12/512GB config.
Xiaomi confirmed that we're getting a 17 Max. The phone will launch later this month in China....Google Password Manager on Android appears to be getting passkey import and export support
17 May 2026 @ 4:02 pm
Passkeys are pretty great. The tech is solid, based on well-established, secure cryptographic principles, and the ease of use is through the roof compared to remembering traditional passwords. In case you are not in the know, the passkey paradigm has you generating a secure private key that you keep locally on your device and a corresponding public key that you give out to websites/services/apps you want to log into. Once you actually want to log in, all you need to do is authenticate on your device securely through something like a biometric lock (fingerprint, Face ID) to “prove” that you...Meta’s Ray-Ban Display gets typing through air gestures in latest update
17 May 2026 @ 1:33 pm
The Ray-Ban Display – Meta’s flagship smart wearable glasses – the ones with the display overlay and not to be confused with the seemingly more popular camera-only models- are getting quite a significant update.
After months in a limited-access beta state within Messenger and WhatsApp, Neural Handwriting is finally available to all. It works on both iOS and Android and across Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and your phone’s message notifications to search for contacts and to send and reply to messages. Naturally, you do have to be wearing the Neural Band accessory that comes bundled...Honor MagicBook Pro 14 (2026) review
17 May 2026 @ 11:01 am
Introduction
Today, we've got the latest in an ever-growing lineup of Honor laptops. This is the Pro model for 2026, and as such, it's pretty cutting-edge, which isn't surprising coming from Honor. It was among the first makers to move to OLED, and it has always used innovative 3:2 screens with high refresh rates.
The specs overview is pretty impressive, too. Upfront is a 14.6-inch 3120x2080px OLED touchscreen with a 3:2 aspect ratio and a max refresh rate of 120Hz. Inside is an Intel Core Ultra 5 338H processor with 32GB of RAM. There's 1TB of storage. The laptop is powered by a 92Wh...Weekly deals: Galaxy S26 Ultra, Pixel 10 Pro, Xiaomi 17 Ultra, and more discounted
17 May 2026 @ 8:45 am
This week’s deals feature a mix of familiar phones and a few new arrivals. At this point, it would be more surprising if Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series and Google’s Pixel 10 lineup weren’t on sale. We’ve also got a couple of Xiaomi phones, the Motorola Edge 70, and Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge on sale.
Just like last week, the Samsung Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26 Ultra are available at a discount. While the savings are relatively modest, £100 off at checkout is pretty neat for smartphones that have only been on the market for a few months.
...Weekly poll: the Sony Xperia 1 VIII is here, are you getting one?
17 May 2026 @ 6:31 am
The Sony Xperia 1 VIII feels like it’s from a different timeline – one where smartphone makers didn’t remove the microSD slot and the 3.5mm headphone jack, where they didn’t adopt punch-hole displays... or big, fast-charging batteries.
We’re not going to sugarcoat it, the Mark 8 flagship has a hefty starting price of €1,500 / £1,400 and the inclusion of a free pair of the excellent WH-1000XM6 doesn’t quite make up for the fact that you are only getting a 5,000mAh battery with 30W wired and 15W wireless charging (no magnets either). A lot of people in the comments under the announcement...Weekly poll results: the Motorola Razr 70 / 2026 series is overpriced, needs more updates
17 May 2026 @ 4:01 am
Last week, we asked you to vote on the topic of Motorola’s new flip foldables – the Razr 70 series or, as they are known in the US, the Razr 2026 series. While there are three models involved, we can come to only one conclusion.
And that conclusion is that the new flip foldables are too expensive – each of the three (vanilla, plus and Ultra) has its fans, however, it would take a price cut or some other deal before most people would consider buying one. Let’s look at them individually.
The Motorola Razr 70 Ultra (aka Razr Ultra 2026) has the best shot – 15% of the vote went in its favor...Google’s new Gemini Intelligence will only be available on a handful of the best current Android flagships for now
17 May 2026 @ 2:01 am
A few days ago, Google announced Gemini Intelligence, which seems to be more than just a rebranding effort. It’s actually an impressive set of features that, among other things, can automate multi-step tasks and execute them entirely in the background on its own, including things like sourcing and transforming information and interacting with various apps and websites autonomously on your behalf. There is even a “Rambler” component coming to Gboard that lets you talk freely with any and all filler or crutch words that most of us unintentionally use, and even mix languages in the same...videocardz.com
