by Alectt Related Item: GrahamS Games Decision Space recently did a podcast (episode 262) with Jon Perry about complexity versus depth and I think a lot of their conversation parallels what is being said here. Some complexity may add depth. Some may just be noise. They also talk about the bias for complex games and other topics. I'd give it a listen.
