New comment on GeekList The Aussie 'Pay it Forward' Chain of Generosity (First In...Wins!) [Australia Only]

31 May 2026 @ 10:38 pm

by LoicSydney I've only participated a few times but echoing Gavin's message. The chain is called Chain of Generosity, and it feels like some people (a minority) are in here for the wrong reasons. I've offered cash as a last resort even though it's in the rules and then being told off by some people (cash is bad, being called "cranky" in my messages after no one picked any of the 15 games I listed) was extremely off-putting. I even had someone reaching out for a game (for trade/buy) I'd listed afterwards and ghosted me altogether. This was at complete ends with what I experienced only a few months back.It also feels absolutely demoralising to spend quite some time to put an offer up and to be met with complete silence for days. It was heartwarming to receive some beautiful comments afterwards from Benjamin and others, just wish there had been some feedback along the way.

But by then we had made too many deckbuilding mistakes to have a good engine. I think there

Weekly poll: will you buy the Xiaomi 17T or the Xiaomi 17T Pro?

31 May 2026 @ 3:04 am

Last year, the Xiaomi 15T Pro easily won over the vanilla 15T in our poll. Now that the 17T generation has arrived, will history repeat itself? There is a good chance that it might not – the new vanilla model brings some key improvements that could improve its fortunes, but there are some issues too. The biggest issue may be the price – the Xiaomi 17T starts at €750, while the 17T Pro starts at €900 (for a 12/256GB phone in both cases). This is a €100 price hike compared to the 15T pair. We get it, everything has gotten more expensive, especially devices that need fast RAM and storage....

Weekly poll results: Android 17 with better security and AirDrop support has people excited

31 May 2026 @ 12:02 am

Last week, we asked you about which announcements coming out of Google I/O had you buzzing with excitement – in general, but also specifically for the upcoming Android 17 update. Starting with the top-level question, Android 17 was by far the best thing demoed at I/O 2026. Not surprising, given our audience. But the ranking of the other options did surprise us – barely anyone cared about Wear OS 7. The smartwatches lost to Gemini Intelligence and Android Auto (which were essentially tied) and even the new Googlebook design (the Android-powered laptops) sparked more interest. Some...

Weekly deals: the Galaxy A57 gets its first real discount, Galaxy A37 and S25 FE also on sale

30 May 2026 @ 9:14 pm

It took a while, but the Samsung Galaxy A57 is finally up on Amazon – and it kicks things off with a $60 discount. That’s a bit less than the A37 discount, but it’s enough to shift the balance of power between the two. The A37 is the cheaper model and if you can live with 6GB of RAM and 128GB non-expandable storage, then yes, it is meaningfully cheaper. But the 256GB models of the A37 and A57 are currently only $10 apart. Samsung Galaxy A57 $60 off Read our review ...

Samsung Galaxy Watch9's codename surfaces, might launch with a Classic model

30 May 2026 @ 5:09 pm

Samsung launched the first "Classic" smartwatch with the Galaxy Watch4 in 2021, but it wasn't a part of all the Galaxy Watch lineups that arrived later, as Samsung launched the Classic model with alternate generations, meaning the Watch5 and Watch7 didn't have a Classic version, but the Watch6 and Watch8 series did. Considering that pattern, we weren't expecting Samsung to launch a Classic smartwatch this year, but a new development suggests that might not be the case. While looking at the code of a Wear OS update, the folks at Android Authority spotted what could be the codenames for the...

Weekly deals: Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro launch with optional tablet bundle

30 May 2026 @ 8:09 am

Xiaomi unveiled the 17T series this week – the two phones cost €100 more than their 15T predecessors, but they also bring in some important upgrades. Starting with the Xiaomi 17T, the phone now features a 50MP 5x/115mm periscope camera to match its Pro sibling. The camera is capable of 30cm macro shots as well as 10x lossless zoom. That’s quite an upgrade from the old 2x/46mm lens. Anyway, the tele camera is joined by a 50MP 1/1.55” main, a 12MP ultra-wide and a 32MP selfie camera. The 17T is smaller than the 15T as the new model has a 6.59” display, a 12-bit 120Hz OLED panel. However,...
