by ebrn2hk Warhammer 40k board/card games have been extremely hit or miss with me. Love the idea and theme, but the execution has been varied. Now, I have played Darktide on my PS5, and it was a fun experience. Didn't love it, but enjoyed my time. This card game was a blind purchase, which always scares me. Card game? Check! Darktide theme? Check! So, I looked at some images and made the purchase on Amazon. here are my thoughts...It's pretty fun! You control a party member, outfit yourself with some weapons and supplies, and start flipping over enemy cards in a "tower defense" style game. The rounds grow increasingly difficult with a relentless amount of baddies swarming you. Chain together action cards to boost your defense, attack via hand-to-hand or ranged, or increase stamina to activate character specific specials.Rulebook is good. Explains the flow of the game. Your goal: to wake up.GAMEPLAYEssentially, you wander through various locations (realms), each one with its own deck of cards.You read a card, choose an option, and perform the corresponding skill check if required. Then, you're either prompted to draw a specific card or you just draw the next one from the realm deck.Along the way, you collect items, raise and lower your dials using your abilities, get chased by monsters, and are almost always called upon to roll the runes.The runes are the only awkward part of the game, although I understand that if they had used dice, it would have felt almost identical to Death May Die. The flat triangular pieces are not comfortable to roll at all, and the acrylic upgraded triangles are quite hard to read.OVERALL

by Pithy_Gamer I have recently once again had the pleasure of playing the Bastogne scenario with an opponent. During the game a few things became evident that I’d like to share that can make your experience playing this little gem more historically accurate and less one sided. Playing this Scenario as it is originally written, creates a heavily one-sided experience in favor of the American player that can easily be remedied by implementing a few historical American implementations. First, it should be recognized that the southern border is far too restricting to the German player. As it is currently located, the southern border allows the American player to utilize an, “edge of the world,” defense effectively utilizing the map edge as part of the American players defensive line by making the south of Bastogne impassible. This inability of the German player to move south of Bastogne is not only ahistorica

by Surya The original Uwe polyomino puzzle game... which I had somehow never played until now.Players use a time track to determine who is the active player. They can use time (and money) to buy a tile to add to their tableau, or to get money. At certain points on the track, income will be triggered, which depends on how many button icons they have on their tableau.Managing your time, being smart about what tiles to get so you don't have to waste too much time taking money, is key.This is an enjoyable game. But I was wondering why this is limited to two players. And I think Uwe had the same thought, which is why he proceeded to make a whole bunch of similar games that support more players.So good stuff if you're into these take and make polyomino puzzle games, but I think I prefer some of the others.Initial rating: 6.8/10BGG scale: 7/10Artwork: 8/10Graphic design: 8/10
