European Commission forces Meta to accept third-party chatbots in WhatsApp for free
10 June 2026 @ 4:47 pm
Back in November of last year, Meta banned third-party chatbots in WhatsApp, but of course the company has its own one built right in. The EU authorities have taken issue with this, and the European Commission (EC) specifically has now ordered Meta to restore access to "rival general-purpose AI assistants" in WhatsApp for free, and maintain it until the end of the EC's antitrust investigation into the original move by Meta to ban them.
The Commission's press release says this will "prevent serious and irreparable harm to competition in this growing market by Meta's conduct, which at first...Counterpoint: shipments of MediaTek and Qualcomm chipsets decline
10 June 2026 @ 3:35 pm
The skyrocketing costs of memory chips are changing the product mix of smartphone makers – cheaper, lower-margin phones aren’t selling so well, while pricier, high-performance models have bigger margins that helped them to absorb the blow. All of this has had an effect on the chipset market for smartphones, reports Counterpoint.
MediaTek remains the largest vendor, though its market share has declined from 38% in Q1 2025 to 32% in Q1 this year. MediaTek’s strong presence in the entry-level and mid-tier segments is being undermined by the reduced smartphone sales in those...Wear OS 7 rollout may be around the corner, hints Verizon Pixel Watch support page

In a now-edited Weibo post, tipster Digital Chat Station shared the key specifications of Huawei's upcoming wide-screen, non-folding smartphone.

10 June 2026 @ 12:38 pm
The Honor Magic V6 began its global rollout last week with a launch in Malaysia and Singapore. Honor says that the new foldable flagship will reach Europe soon. In the meantime, the company wanted to confirm that it and other Magic-series models will receive 7 years of OS updates and security patches in the EU and the UK.
This is not a new development – last year the company committed to the 7-year update window for all Magic devices. Meanwhile, more affordable phones like the number series are getting 6 years of support.
